Building owners have a responsibility to remain compliant with OSHA safety guidelines and may face ultimate responsibility for gravity related accidents at construction sites –  including falls from ladders and scaffolds. There are a number of safety steps that building owners need to make sure are followed in order to prevent ladder falls. For example, ladders should be properly braced at the bottom and secured at the top to make sure that construction workers aren’t likely to fall off. If a building owner is negligent in failing to protect workers, they may be liable under New York’s Labor Law section 240(1).
