EAST ISLIP, NEW YORK (December 20, 2017) – A PSEG Worker was injured on Monday while he was responding to a call about a power outage in East Islip.

Authorities are saying that the worker was near a transformer when it exploded by Wyandanch Avenue on Monday night. It appears as though the worker may have been in a bucket attached to the truck at the time the transformer exploded.

The PSEG Worker was sent to the hospital with burns. He is currently listed in stable condition.

The cause of the transformer explosion accident remains under investigation at this time.

When a worker is injured in New York, they will typically be able to file a worker’s compensation claim in order to help with their medical costs and lost wages. In addition to any worker’s compensation claims, a person that is injured on the job may be able to file an additional third party claim against any other entities responsible for the accident. For example if a worker is injured after a transformer malfunctions and explodes, that person may be able to file a claim against the component manufacturers of the transformer. A number of transformer explosions occur due to faulty wiring. Old transformers may also explode when their insulating materials begin to fail.
