QUEENS, NEW YORK (December 18, 2017) – A food delivery bicyclist was tragically killed in an accident with a big rig truck in Queens by 54th Avenue and 48 Street in Maspeth.

Queens police are saying that the bicycle accident took place as the tractor-trailer truck heading East crashed into the bicyclist turning onto 48th Street.

The food delivery bicyclist was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Unfortunately, he later died at the hospital. The semi truck involved in the bicycle accident kept going after the crash and was sought after by police.

Investigators are saying that it is possible that the truck driver didn’t realize that he hit a pedestrian. Surveillance footage may have captured the bicycle crash where Hugo Ramirez was struck.

An investigation into the deadly hit and run big rig truck accident that killed Hugo Ramirez in Queens remains ongoing at this time.

Semi Truck drivers have a responsibility to drive reasonably safe and keep a watchful eye out for pedestrians. Unfortunately, this isn’t always the case. Truck drivers are often forced to work long hours and don’t get enough sleep. Bicyclists and motorcyclists can be overlooked and are often victims of truck accidents. If a truck driver causes an accident within the scope of their employment, the business that they work for will typically be vicariously liable for the accident. Furthermore, if a person is working and involved in a car accident, they or their family may be entitled to multiple forms of aid. They will typically receive workers compensation in addition to being able to file a third party claim against any business that injured them.
