BROOKLYN, NEW YORK (December 19, 2017) – An 89-year-old woman was killed in a tragic car accident by the Dyker Lights In Brooklyn by 11th Avenue and 81st Street.

Brooklyn police have been able to identify the woman that died in the accident involving the livery cab as Helen Malinowski.

Helen Malinowski was a passenger in the livery car when the driver of a 2009 Kia traveling eastbound ran into the car she was in at the intersection by 8th Street.

The driver of the livery cab was arrested for driving on a suspended license.

Firefighers and paramedics rushed to the scene of the crash in order to assist Helen Malinowski for her injuries. Unfortunately, she sustained critical injuries and later died as a result of the crash.

The driver of a livery cab has a responsibility to drive in a manner that is reasonably safe in order to prevent accidents. Unfortunately, this doesn’t always end up happening. When a cab driver fails to drive in a reasonably safe manner and causes an accident, the company that they work for may be vicariously liable. In addition to driver negligence, poor road design may also contribute to an accident. If, for example, an intersection lacks important safety features that are contributing to accidents, the city may be liable. An intersection may be dangerous if it lacks a traffic light, is poorly lit, is obstructed by foliage or for many other reasons.
