LIABILITY IN MUDSLIDE ACCIDENTS
Many people think of mudslides as random acts of nature. But there may actually be liability in mudslide accidents if a business or city did something to cause the mudslide or made it more likely for one to occur. So Cal Edison and The Montecito Water District are currently being sued for the role that they may have played in causing the mudslides in California. A mudslide might occur if a water company fails to install an adequate safety shut-off valve in the event of heavy rains. Land developers may also be liable if they removed trees that would make a mudslide more likely. Any person that is injured in a landslide may be able to file a claim for damages including medical bills, lost wages and pain and suffering.
