QUEENS: Tatiana Devia Injured In Construction Accident After Being Hit In The Head By Falling Wooden Plank

Tatiana Devia Injured In Accident After Being Hit In The Head By Wooden Plank Thrown By Construction Workers

QUEENS, NEW YORK (February 26, 2018) – A young girl was seriously injured in a construction accident after being hit by a wooden plank while walking with her parents at Jackson Heights site on 35th Avenue near 84th Street.

Queens authorities have been able to identify the girl that was injured after the wooden plank was thrown out of the window as Tatiana Devia.

Onlookers are saying that the area where the accident took place had no ropes or warning signs indicating an active construction zone.

Firefighters and paramedics rushed to the scene of the construction accident in order to treat Tatiana Devia for her injuries.

At least 13 complaints have been issued against the building owner in the past two years.

Tatiana Devia remained conscious as she was taken to the hospital for her head injury.

Queens police are saying that the construction workers took off after the victim was hit.

New York Labor Law 240(1) holds general contractors and building owners ultimately responsible for accidents involving falling objects. The law is designed to make sure that general contractors keep their workplace safe for not only workers but pedestrians as well.
