GENEVA Workers Rescued: David Fitzgerald and Joseph Gravitte Injured In Construction Accident After Building Collapsed

Construction Accident In Geneva, New York Injured David Fitzgerald and Joseph Gravitte After Building Collapsed

GENEVA, NEW YORK (January 24, 2018) – Two construction workers were injured at a work site when the building they were working on suddenly collapsed.

Geneva authorities have been able to identify the two construction workers that were injured in the building collapse as David Fitzgerald and Joseph Gravitte.

David Fitzgerald was inside of the building at the time of the accident and Joseph Gravitte was on the outside operating a lift.

Both of the construction workers were trapped under the debris for 30 minutes before they could be rescued.Eventually work crews were able to free the two men.

David Fitzgerald and Joseph Gravitte were taken to the hospital in order to receive treatment for their injuries.

Wind gusts may have been a factor in the collapse. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the construction accident.

Generally speaking, when a construction worker is injured in New York they will be able to file a worker’s compensation claim for lost wages and medical bills. In addition to a worker’s compensation claim, an injured worker may be able to file a third party liability claim against any other entities that may have been responsible for the accident. Construction projects typically involve multiple teams of people who must work together. If a construction worker is injured by the negligence of a worker from a separate company, this may give rise to a third party claim. If construction engineers create the foundation of a building with design inadequacies, this may lead the building to collapse. Any worker that is injured in that scenario may be able to file a claim for damages.
