Forklift Operator Jorge Castaneda Killed In Freak Accident After Being Pinned Between Flat Bed Truck In Bushwick on Broadway Avenue
BROOKLYN, NEW YORK (March 10, 2018) – A 46-year-old man tragically died in a forklift accident after he became pinned against a flatbed truck at a work-site in Cypress Hills.
The victim that died has been identified as Jorge Castaneda from Queens.
Brooklyn police are saying that the forklift involved in the accident rolled forward and pinned the worker to a nearby truck.
An investigation into the fatal truck accident remains ongoing. The victim was apparently walking between the truck and the forklift before the tragedy.
Jorge Castaneda was taken to the Brookdale University Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead. It remains unclear if a mechanical malfunction may have contributed to what happened.
LIABILITY IN FORKLIFT ACCIDENTS
Forklifts can be extremely dangerous machines to operate and contribute to a number of accidents every year. They are top heavy and can be difficult to stop. When a worker is killed in a forklift accident their family will typically be able to file a worker’s compensation claim in order to help with lost wages. In addition to worker’s compensation, an injured worker may be able to file a third party liability claim. For example, if a design defect contributed to an accident, the manufacturer of the forklift may be liable. Faulty hydraulic systems, inadequate brakes and poor maintenance have caused a number of forklifts to tip over.
