BRONX, NEW YORK (February 17, 2018) – A 33-year-old man was stabbed in the chest and killed in the lobby of a Bronx Park East apartment building on Friday.

Bronx police have been able to identify the victim of the stabbing as Moises Palacios.

A neighbor who lives in the apartment came across Moises Palacios and thought that he may be sleeping.

When the victim was flipped over there was a pool of blood beneath him and a 1 inch puncture wound was found in his chest.

Medics rushed Moises Palacios to the Jacobi Medical Center but doctors were not able to keep him alive. Tragically, he was later pronounced dead.

There is an ongoing criminal investigation into the attack. Those who knew him described him as an incredible and hard working person.

He worked long shifts and would send money back to his wife and daughter in Mexico.

Generally speaking, building owners have a responsibility to provide their tenants and guests with a reasonably safe environment. Security measures like video cameras, locked doors and guards can all go a long way in helping to reduce crime at an apartment complex. A building owner’s responsibility to provide security at an apartment complex will typically increase in an area with a history of violence. If a building owner fails to provide an adequate level of security and this contributes to an assault or murder, the building owner may be held liable. A victim or their family may be able to file a claim for damages.
